Getting error messages at startup on rundll32 and sometimes with the
explorer. I have to press the 'close' button to get any further. The OS is
    windiws98. Can someone please help?

If this has just begun recently, you can restore the registry to a
    prior good state.
Boot to the Windows startup disk.
    At the dos prompt, type
    c: hit Enter
    cd windows hit Enter
    type scanreg /restore hit Enter
