I have recently noticed in my start up list within MSCONFIg (WIN 98 SE) a
lsting checked for spp with the line regedit-sC\spp.reg? What is this, and
can I uncheck safely? I'm a little concerned about the 'regedit' part.

It's an IE search hijacker that changes your default search options.

    Install and use:

    Spybot Search & Destroy

    Ad-Aware
