    Hi all

I notice that a number of regulars here jumble up their email address and do
tricks to disguise/encrypt (in the eyes of the spammers) them.

Question is, by doing so, has the spam stopped or slowed right down? and,

would someone be so kind as to tell me what I would need to do to some of
the settings and email address on my pc? Fiancee is getting a host of
different emails from numerous unknown people all with the same rude and
disgusting content. I have ZoneAlarm Pro installed and anti virus is upto
    date.

Many thanks if anyone could help

    Alistair

The idea is *prevention*. If you have exposed your unaltered address and the
spam bots have picked it up, altering your address after-the-fact will not
lessen or stop the spam that is already destined to come your way. It can
only help prevent *other* bots from getting your address in the future.
"bots" are scanning programs that search newsgroup posts for email
addresses, and then they are harvested and added to spammer databases.

It's amazingly simple, Alistair. Simply go into your Outlook Express news
account settings (tools/accounts/news/properties) and under the "general"
tab, on the email address line, put a fake or intenationally altered address
in that space. Although I'm a bit puzzled as to why you are asking,
considering that your address is showing as . That
isn't your *real* address is it?

I used to get hundreds of `Spam` every day. I blocked certain words and it
used to take 20 minutes for my emails to start to download.
All this has changed! Freeserve now Wanado (crap name by the way!) adds the
word `Spam` to spam. It knows this because of multi spams with the same
heading going to different email addresses. Great idea. Now instead of
haveing hundreds of banned words in my `blocked word ` list, I have one
    `SPAM`
I now get about 6 emails a day.
It looks like they are finaly doing what we kept on telling them to do.
    Well done Wanadoo (Crap name!!!)
