some sort of security breech?

    I recently experienced a problem with my keyboard and am suspicious that it
    was caused by some sort of security breech.

    I was invited by email to visit a web page to take advantage of a free offer
    from Zone Labs. I was first prompted to enable Javascript, which I did. Next
    I was told that the page contained an unsafe ActiveX control. I didn't think
    Zone Labs would use an unsafe control, so I stopped using the page. I could
    not detect any effects at the time. However, the next time I booted up my PC
    I found that most of the keys, including the function keys, had no effect.
    Those keys which did produce a character didn't produce the one they were
    supposed to. Restarting the machine did not stop the problem. Nor did
    switching off the PC & turning it on again. I went back to my machine a few
    days later, expecting the same problem to be present, but it wasn't. Can
    anyone offer any advice?

    Links are dead ?? Find a live link to them, and I'll
    give it a look.

    The email smells a bit, looks like a scam

    The links aren't dead, just mistranslated. Replace '=2E' with '.' and it
    works. The page looks legitimate (no oddball references), and the source
    addresses in the email look correct.

    I'm no fan of allowing just anyone install an ActiveX control, so I'll
    stick to security scanners that don't need them.

    AAAArgh. Do NOT respond to stuff in unsolicited emails. The addresses
    are almost always fake, and will either dump you into a porno site or
    more likely infect you. Do NOT respond to any web address in an email
    from anywhere. Cut and paste it out of the email instead into your
    browser.

    ]Scan now=2E Use this link to access the Zone Labs Security Scanner:
    ]http://download=2Ezonelabs=2Ecom/bin/free/cm/index4=2Ehtml

    This is NOT the original email. This is something you cut and pasted out
    of that original email. The original almost certainly was an html page
    with something like

    <A
    HREF="http:111.222.333.4/virus.html>http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/sm/index.html
    </A>

    Note that the actual address this links to is NOT zonelabs, but
    111.222.333.4
