Small Partition for Compaq 1245 Laptop

Discussion in 'Computer Information' started by Michael Thomas, Jan 24, 2004.

  1. To All,

A friend of mine has a Compaq 1245 laptop running Windows 98. After
reformatting he can only get 2.1GB patitions instead of the entire 20GB
partition. Any ideas to get the largest partitioin possible? Could this be
a limitation of the original bios?

    Thanks
    Mike

when he partitioned the drive using fdisk
he neglected to enable large drive support

best to run fdisk again and be sure to enable large drive support...
    then delete the partition
    then recreate

    reboot and format

Nope, you used a 95A or earlier boot disk. If you use 95B or 98 (any
flavor) you can use FDISK to create a FAT32 partition instead of the FAT
partition you now have. FAT is limited to partitions of 2.1GB or less, FAT
32 is limited to partitions of ~2TB or less
