I've had problems since installing Bellsouth's DSL in June. I'm using their Westell combination router and modem (a 327 version). I get good speed at my computer and horrible speed on my wife's computer. Service technician said his notebook was picking up good speed at the same point as my wife's computer, so he felt it was "behind the NIC", some sort of software problem. I just installed a new NIC, but it doesn't help. Could there really be processes running that could slow a 3.0 connection down to 0.4? When I shut down recently, I got the message that Internet Explorer was trying to shut down and I could end the process but might lose information. It had to be running in the background, because I had closed it and waited a few seconds before shutting down.
