A guy at work used an Auckland company - edvd.co.nz - to do the same.
Didn't cost very much and didn't take long. He also had some Super8mm
    film transferred across.

Chap seemed happy with them, but I haven't seen the quality.

I'm in Welly Land, Porirua to be exact...
I dunno, how long would it take to scan them?
    I looked at this:
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction_detail.asp?id=19935157

It took 21 seconds ( from memory) to do a pass of four slides....

A 4800 dpi flatbed with an adapter probably costs the same as a
specialised slide scanner and will yield similar results as well as being
able to be used for other things.
