    <<Originally licensed to Image Entertainment in a letterboxed edition
    from the early days of DVD, Universal Studios Home Video has finally
    released an anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio version of
    "Slaughterhouse Five" that is a definite improvement over the previous
    DVD release. A clear two-channel English Monaural Soundtrack is included
    along with optional English Captions for the hearing impaired and French
    and Spanish Language Subtitles. Unfortunately there are no extra value
    features in this DVD release though the theatrical trailer (4:31) is
    included.>>

    Thanks for mentioning that one of my favorite movies has been
    re-released in a beautiful anamorphic version. Not only is
    _Slaughterhouse Five_ one of the best movies ever made, it is also one
    of the strangest.

    I went to high school with Holly Near, so the movie is of particular
    interest to me.

    Best Buy had the new _Slaughterhouse Five_ for only $9.99. I hope that
    Universal will continue to re-release improved, budget versions the many
    Image titles which are now out of print.

    definitely, but what's with the lack of special features? The same thing
    happened with the recently re-released
    "Melvin and Howard".

    "Billy! Billy, Mama's here. You can come out now. Billy. Billy,
    sweetheart. The war is over. You can come out now."

    The Image version has no menu. When you press "Menu" on the remote, all
    you get is a list of chapters. The Image disk isn't even silk-screened.

    Compared to the original non-anamorphic Image version of _Slaughterhouse
    Five_, the new anamorphic Universal version has an extravaganza of
    extras:

    * An actual menu.

    * A trailer.

    * Captioned in English for the Hearing Impaired.

    * Spanish and French subtitles.

    * And, the Universal disk came in an Amaray case, while the Image disk
    was in a snapper case.

    The scene with Valencia racing to the hospital in the DeVille
    Convertible is a classic.

    "She had some kind of accident with the car and got carbon monoxide
    poisoning."

    "But she drives a Cadillac!"

    the dumbasses at Universal and Paramount STILL won't include this feature on so
    many new DVD's (e.g. THREE O'CLOCK HIGH, THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED, YOUNG
    SHERLOCK HOLMES)
