Is there anything that can be done about all the spam on this NG?
I'll be glad to help if someone can tell me what to do.

I just go up to "block sender".

also if you get hit with a ton of it like that mi5 stuff you can highlight
all of it at once and just press the delete key

Hmmm... Doesn't all that spam originate from google groups?

    Do you have any suggestions?

Do you want to get rid of spammers, or just have your reader ignore the
    posts?

You are posting with 40tude, (had to look at msg headers) with it's
score and filter system it should be 1 of the better readers to ignore
    spam with.

    Try looking in this ng
    news.software.readers
    http://groups.google.com/group/news.software.readers/topics?lnk=gschg

If there isn't already an answer, try posting with a subject line like

[40tude] Need help with filters/scoring to remove shoe sales spam.

Remember to say what version of 40tude your are using,
    40tude_Dialog/2.0.15.1

Some questions about spamm scoring found by searching above group using

    subject: 40tude.

A few subject keyword filters gets rid of most.

I am trying the Plonk feature on 40tude Dialog, but it doesn't seem
    to do much.

    1. Use a server that filters.

    2. Filter out Google Gropers. See first link in my sig and select Dialog.

First day of using Hamster with Thunderbird: complete newb here, but
following your directions (on UIP) removed 50 spam posts. I believe in
heaven, but when I get there it may only be a little bit better than this :)

    Enjoy your improved usenet. :)

I'd like to quote your paragraph at the UIP as you've seen I some such
reports. May I? Yes, I know this is Usenet and public, but I'm terminally
    courteous. Please advise. Thanks!

It would be an honour and a privilege, sir! For the sake of complete
accuracy you could change 50 spam posts to 30; I hadn't realised Hamster
had a kill-counter and was just comparing the filtered and unfiltered
    versions.
