Lately, after switching ISPs (not my choice), we've been having
difficulty connecting to the SMTP server. The Technical Support
personnel suggested that we use OE (not my choice, I can tell you) and
modify some settings - namely the Server Timeouts. It has been suggested
that it be moved (it's a slider, in case some are not aware) from 1
minutes to a full 5 minutes. As a result of this, it seems to have
    corrected the problem.

Well, that's great if you're a fan of OE, which I am not, so for those
of you in the know, is there a similar setting in Thunderbird that can
be modified to increase the server timeouts to greater than 1 minute? If
there is, I haven't been able to find it.
