    hi,

is there a significant speed difference between SATA adapter and a
    motherboard that supports SATA?

i'm trying to decide if i should still get a ATA HDD with 8mb cache, or
    a SATA+adapter or a new motherboard.

    thanks

    will.

If its a PCI card it will not be faster as it can only run at a 133m Max, but
a real SATA MoBo can run at 150m..

Mind you it will all be obsolete in a few months when SATA 2 comes out..
