Sensor size

  1. How do you read the CCD sensor size?

When you see 1/1.8", that mixes decimals, fractions, and imperial units.
    What are the equivalent words?
Is it "the reciprocal of one-point-eight"?
Or "one and one eighth" or what?

There is a good article on what it actually means at:
    http://www.dpreview.com/news/0210/02100402sensorsizes.asp

    1/1.8" is approx 7 by 5 mm

    2/3" is approx 9 by 7 mm

    Those CCD sensors are tiny!
