I have been a systems manager for two years, have the equivalent of a degree
in network administration, and have completed an MCSA 70-290 two week course
in preparation of said exam. I use the stuff (most of it- with the exception
of IIS) at work every day; I manage a small team of technicians and am over a
network manager. But I am scared silly about failing the 70-290 test!!!
Really!!! So much so I haven't taken it since the prep course- some four
    months ago.

Am I crazy or are there others like this?

    Help!

Paul why should you be any different than the rest of us?
Does your job, marriage, friendships or happiness really depend on the test?

I delayed and "fretted" so often that my wife finally told me to "--- or get
off the pot" (not really - but you get the idea) - if you are waiting until
you feel "comfortable" - it ain't goin happen!

Soooo - sharpen your mouse finger and sign up!!

  3. Hi Paul,

Like many things I have found that the fear is worse than what you are
fearing. I started my cert path in 2001 in a bad way - Immediately after
taking a few courses and with little or no extra studying I registered for my
first exam - and failed miserably. My second exam was not too different
because I did not make it different.

In March of 2003 I had taken several courses, done a lot of extra studying,
and wanted to at least get my MCP. Scared like you would not believe (or
maybe you would) I registed for the exam, and spent the next week cloistered
with my books. Low and behold not only did I pass, but I REALLY passed. I
was so happy that I called everyone I knew!

Well I waited another year for no good reason. I got my cert and rested on
my laurels - as far as exams go anyhow. I had a free exam voucher that was
going to expire the end of June of 2004, and though I had no time to study I
figured it was free, and if I did not pass then I would learn from it, but to
not take it was a waste. I took the exam and would you believe it? I passed
    that one too!

The fear never went away, and it took me another good chunk of time to take
my next exam. Spurred on by a friend whose certs looked the same as mine, I
took my next exam eleven months later - and could hardly believe that I
    passed that one too.

I wrote a blog post about an experience I had earlier this year - again,
forced by a deadline. It really does not matter what eggs you on to do the
exam, as long as you do it.

I cannot take your fear away, but let me try to minimize it: The absolute
worst thing that could possibly happen is that you fail, and you study harder
to take it again. A trap door will not open under your feet and you will not
be laughed at or belittled, and you will be no less a human being.

What is the best thing that can happen? You pass! You join the ranks of
the certified, and call all of your friends to tell them how happy you are
    and how great you feel!

Now go out there, register for the exam, and good luck to you. Don't forget
to let us know how you do!

I would suggest that u get a practice test like measureup stuff, spend some
time on it, and go take the exam......
Just took the 270 yesterday, was scared to death, but this thing really
    helped me.
The thing is you know, cause you use the stuff. and that is the most
important part... Go for it !!!

  5. Hello Paul,
You sound like me, just study and take it. I passed it with a 990 but had
delayed it about 3 times and got myself nervous everytime.

If you need help let me know, I have been there and done that.

    Much appreciated people.

Just reading some of your experiences and assurances I think I will just go
for it and take it from there. Like you said, the worst that can happen is
that I fail- and that should make me go away and try harder the next time!

    Thanks so much people!
