hey, i wonder if anyone can tell me where i can download the windows updates
    (as .exe),
in stead of installing them directly with 'windows update'?

Find the numbers associated to the updates, search the database, click on the
    download links.

    Windows Update Catalog

There's a link in the Windows Update window, or you can try this one:
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp
    .... or the TinyURL:

Windows Update Catalog / Download basket.
    Basically -
Create a directory to save the updates in.
    Select the updates.
    Goto download basket.
Select the directory you created, to save the files in.

The updates are downloaded into the directory / subfolders created.

They are not installed, see the MS article -
