Run multiple copies of browser

When I click on the global icon to run more than one copy of browser it
requires me to set up a separate profile which doesn't have the
bookmarks of the original. I can workaround avoiding multiple profiles
by going to help, clicking on "about" to show me version 1.4 which then
creates a new window which I can then go on to get whatever URL in the
second window without having to set up a second profile. Why can't I
just click on the global icon and open a second browser directly with
    the same profile?

The website said: "Use Internet Explorer 5 or better".
