Question concerning RIP Neighbor Command. If I want a neighbor router to
receive RIP update but the neighbor router does not understand/process
multicast addresses I use the neighbor command to so the neighbor router can
    understand multicast addresses.

However, I still don't understand what determines if a particular
neighbor/interface will understand or process a multicast address by default
as opposed to using the neighbor command to make it understand multicast
    addresses?

    Thanks

    John

  2. Hi!

    RIPv1 - broadcast 255.255.255.255
You can set to unicast coherence, by using "neighbor" command in "router
    rip" section.

    RIPv2 - multicast 224.0.0.9
also You can using "neighbor" command.

    On interfaces You can set:
    ip rip {send|receive} version {1|2}

    WBR,
    Yevgeniy.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English...
