right click crash

    can anyone help please
    every time i right cick on the destop or desktop icons the system
    locks up. this also occurs with some prgrammes. i am running win 2000
    pro on a 2.5 gig machine with 1 gig of ram.

    i have already reinstalled the os and this hasn't helped so any bright
    ideas apptreciated

    Check the Event Viewer for errors.

    Thanks done that the same error report occurs one is for rasmans and
    is numbered 20035 and the other is for service conrol centre and is
    numbered 7035 i was wondering wether to reinstall the service patches
    .. thanks for your help i'd never heard of the event viewer before
