Looks like a real piece of crap, IMO:

    "What I didn't care for:

Photo quality -- noisy, soft, plus blurry corners too
    No manual shutter speed/aperture controls
    Movie mode not so hot
    No AF illuminator
    Redeye
    No memory card included
Flimsy door over memory card/battery compartment" -DCResource

Just curious, why would you choose to only post the "What I didn't care
for". There was also a lengthy

    What I liked:

    a.. Ultra-thin design still impressive in 2004
    b.. Quite a few controls for a point-and-shoot
    c.. Supports underwater case
d.. Histograms in record and playback mode
    e.. Impressive playback mode
    f.. Lots of scene modes
g.. Cool digital filters, 3D picture mode
    What I didn't care for:

I own one and am surprised by some of his results. From the discussions I
have had with other owners, I suspect early models had issues. Mine, for
example, doesn't have focus issues in the corner, nor do I have noise
problems like described. I don't care about the movie mode, nor is the lack
of a card an issue, as most camera companies provide a uselessly small card
    anyway.

Life is full of trade-offs. When I want super quality, I use my D100. When I
want a camera with me always, the S4i is perfect.

Flimsy doors are a gripe about a lot of digital cameras. It was a problem on
    film cameras too.

The biggest issues with the Optio S4i is the lack of the AF assist lamp.
Nikon is finally adding this vital feature to even its lower end models,
something Canon has been doing for years. I'd avoid the Optio S4i on that
issue alone. You just don't realize how useful it is until you use a camera
    without it.

The photo quality is not up to something like a Canon S410 or S500, but the
Optio is a lot less expensive, so it's an slightly unfair comparison. The
S4i is good if you simply must have an ultra-thin, but if photo quality is
more important, then a slightly thicker camera such as the Canon digital
Elph/digital Ixus is a better choice.

The image softness and vignetting aren't exactly selling points either. ;-)
