Repairing 17-40mm F/4L

Discussion in 'Digital Photography' started by Richard Kaszeta, Feb 11, 2007.

  1. One of my more useful lenses (my 17-40mm F/4L) had a tragic mishap,
and has broken off of it's lens mount.

Anyone had a lens repaired by Canon with this amount of damage (the
optics are fin, but the entire lens mount and ribbon cables are
obviously trashed)? I'm wondering if it's even worth sending the
lens to them to look at it.

Not Canon, but Sigma charged me $120 to repair a 70-300 with about the
    same damage.

Send it in and ask for a quote. I may well need a new rear barrel
as well as the PCB and mount bits. But that lens is worth fixing.
