Removing Olympus D490 Lens Cover

Discussion in 'Digital Photography' started by Comrade Sergey, Apr 26, 2004.

  1. Hello, I have a broken Olympus D490 camera. I can turn it on and off but
when I open up the lens cover to go into picture taking mode the lens
extends, the camera beeps, and then the lens retracts back into the
camera. I suspected that the source of the problem is a broken switch so
I wedged a thin piece of tough plastic into there (very lightly, I might
add) and it seemed to work. However I cannot take pictures with it since
if I pick up the camera the rather large plastic doohickey that I placed
there to keep the switch closed will fall out. Also I dont want to have
to slide a piece of plastic underneath the lens cover everytime I want
to take a picture. So my question is... what is the safest way (and
preferably what is the easiest) way to temporarily remove the lens
    cover? Thank you.
