    Tried it on 2 ways:

    run from the webpage http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp


    Visit the Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition Web site
    Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition Updates
    Pick from Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition updates

    want to install, click Add, and then click Review and install updates.

    I have seen many problems updating Directx from windowsupdate. I
    recommend going to download.com, search for directx, and look for
    Directx 9.0b redistributable. It's about 32megs and it works great.
