Starting at http://www.microsoft.com/lifecycle, drilling down, finding
Windows XP Professional (you didn't mention a particular edition), it
    says:

    Mainstream support retired: 04/14/2009
    Extended support retired: 04/08/2014

You have 5 more years before worrying about it. Extended support means
you pay for it but the product is still supported by all ancilliary
services to keep it supportable. Users will still be doing reinstalls
of the OS even after the mainstream support has ended. Don't expect
Microsoft to provide any support, including validation, after the end of
    extended support.

By the time extended support for Windows XP has ended, Microsoft might
be able to squeak out one more major version of Windows after Windows 7.
