    Simplified you need a device that strips out bogus pulses that overload
    the capturing device's gain control circuits. Not sure if there is a
    software solution for that. I do it by duplicating it in a dual DVD/VCR
    deck then transcoding a DVD rip to whatever format I want using DVDFab.
