I think you meant to type "Thunderbird" there, and I disagree: Tbird is
a pretty damn good email *and* news client, with good filtering (so I'm
told; I never use it; don't like to look at Usenet through
killfile-colored glasses). I wonder how it stacks up against Agent,
which, I'm also told, can actually filter out the MI5 shit.

So why then, did your retarded ass decide to cross post this fucking

I don't have any problem filtering the MI5 junk with Outlook Express
although it takes a little ingenuity to devise the message rule. Enter each
of the letters in "MI5 Persecution" as a word with the "and" modifier
between each. You could probably leave out a few of the letters but the '5'
is important. Then you must 'apply' it if you want to remove former posted
messages, or you could just delete them, or reset the group so all new
headers are downloaded with the above message rule active. No offense
intended to the MI5 person. :)

    Doh! You are indeed correct.

    > Tbird is a pretty damn good email *and* news client,

It's a nice e-mail client, I now use it for that myself for all my mail. It
is ONLY a damn good news client though if you compare it to M$ LookOut, I
have tried a few times to use it for news, but it's just not man enough for
    the job.

I'm afraid you were told wrong then. The mail filtering is a PITA if you
collect mail from several different boxes, but for news, I'm told you
/still/ can't apply a global filter to ALL groups.

As can 40tude, which goes back to what I was saying about apps specificly
designed for a task Vs apps with some other stuff bolted on.

I thought Thunderbird and SeaMonkey [both Mozilla code based] were
alike, and I can set global filters for all groups with SeaMonkey.

Have you tried selecting [highlighting] your newsserver and clicking on
the message filter option from the Tools menu? If TB is like SM, you
should be able to set your filter/s there.
