There are three movies in the original Japanese series. Discount the TV
movie, the TV series or the remakes.

Even when discounting those, there are four movies. "Ringu", the sequel "Rasen"
(The Spiral), the other sequel "Ringu 2", and the prequel "Ringu 0".

Aaah but Rasen was never truly considered the sequel to Ringu since it
wasn't by the same writer/director.. or something like that anyway..

Then "Ringu 0" should be excluded as a prequel as well, so the theory doesn't
hold water. Sequels are often made by other directors. The reason "Ringu 2" was
made was of course only because "Rasen" didn't hit big.

  5. I don't know about the rest of you, but RINGU was a huge letdown for me. Very
dull movie with no genuine thrills.

No. Ring 0 was by a different director too. And besides, I have held
the Japanese boxset in my own dirty little hands, and it had all four
    movies.

Mischa (still hasn't seen Rasen, though)

Completely the other way around for me. Really cool atmosphere, keeps
the suspense up very well. Sparked my interest in Japanese horror.

A R1 box set with all 4 movies... Sounds like a good project for Anchor
    Bay.
