Using the paper clip is not recommended as a daily (several
times daily) measure. It stresses the mechanics of the drive.

Have you tried using the software "eject" command (it is
somewhere on your system/in your CD burner software/etc., you'll
find it if you look for it) ?

A new drive is about $15 - a better (older) drive is $3-$5 at a
    garage sale.

Use slower speeds for burning and don't skimp, get quality media
    - TDK, Fuji, Taiyo Yuden (just a little relevant advcie ;-)
