    cross-post

[Usenet] To post a single article simultaneously to several
newsgroups. Distinguished from posting the article
repeatedly, once to each newsgroup, which causes people to see
it multiple times (which is very bad form).

    Uh... no.

There's nothing wrong with crossposting in and of itself. In fact,
crossposting is generally good for Usenet.

Multi-posting on the other hand, is usually bad. And excessive crossposting
    is also bad.

In crossposting, you list multiple groups in the "newsgroups" header. The
message is sent to each server only once and only one copy is stored, but it
will appear in as many groups as listed.

In multi-posting, you post multiple messages -- one for each newsgroup and
multiple copies of the message are stored. An article multi-posted to five
newsgroups will be stored five times and takes up five times as much storage
space as an article that is crossposted to five newsgroups.

Excessive crossposting is generally bad, but this guy only crossposted to two
related newsgroups. There was no call for bad form here.

If you're gonna hound someone, there are far worse offenders than Genre
Online. If anything, you should have flamed them for bragging about the
    Dinotopia movie... <puke!>

Which is exactly what the definition quoted said. Crossposting is OK, if
relevant, multi posting is bad form.

Yes. And one day he will realise this.

    Exactly.

    Ohhhhhhhhh.........

I thought you were labelling his message as a crosspost.

You just said "cross post" I thought you meant "this is a cross post." You
were actually *instructing* him to cross post.

    I totally misunderstood.

Multiposting can be hard to spot. Good catch.
