    But could this be the downfall of linux? Many independant companies trying
    to protect their slice of the pie and turning a free open source OS into
    something resembling MS software.

    Oh yeah! Every one of those millions of people who have the latest
    Linux source code are going to destroy it and buy something off SCO.

    And every open source developer out there is going to suddenly stop
    writing code and become a SCO employee.

    SCOsource say you have to pay if you are using Linux for commercial
    purposes. Individuals might fall into that category FWIW

    It can't happen. The GPL makes that impossible.

    That is WHY the SCO thing is pure manure: they released their own linux
    under the GPL.

    They can't take it back..and they can't lay claim to anyone else's either.

    They also refuse to say what code is "infringing".

    Pure FUD.
