    Open AVG User Interface window

    Double click on "Resident Shield" item

    Near the bottom of the new window, look for "Resident shield active"
    with a box at the start of the line

    If there is no tick in the box then that is your problem. Click on it
    to put a tick there.

    Click "Save changes"
