My Compaq machine currently has 256Mb Non-parity DDR PC2100 184-pin DIMM
    memory, and an empty slot.

When buying more memory (a 1Gb or 512Mb module), is there any
difference/advantage in fitting PC3200 or PC2700 instead of PC2100 in the
    empty slot?
