Printing Issues

Discussion in 'Windows 64bit' started by Sandeep Thakker, Jan 10, 2006.

  1. My company bought couple of HP Workstations and they came with native X64
version of XP Pro. I have network printers installed on Windows 2003
Server(32 bit). I can not use these drivers or install network printers on
these machines. I can not install 64 bit drivers on Server. I downloaded
brand new X64 driver from HP's website and still no go. You know what I
mean, pain, You open the shared printer on server and try to put additional
driver for X64 /Server 2003 and XP, it will tell me that this driver can not
be installed. I can install the same driver on XP Pro and make a direct
connection to printer thru TCP/IP Port and it works. Also there is an issue
with Canon IR C 3100 color laser printer. The XP (X64) machine does not like
Canon 64 bit driver at all. It denies to install that driver and so does
    Windwos 2003 Server (32 bit)

  2. "The XP (X64) machine does not like Canon 64 bit driver at all. It denies to

Well, I would have to agree with Server 2003 (32-bit) if it does not like a
64-bit Printer driver. Have you contacted Canon about installation issues
concerning the 64 bit drivers for your printer you received from them?

  5. Take a look at the blog I did on this a while back. You should be able to
install the printer drivers (but probably not the special software), on your
server. It's a bit different from regular drivers, so you'll need to follow
    the instructions. See

  6. Hi Charlie, I have a simillar problem to Sandeep in that I have a HP G85
multifunction printer connected to a XP Prof desktop. I am trying to connect
to this shared printer from an AMD Athlon running XP x64 Prof. Tried your
solution in the blog but no luck. The XP Prof pc will try and load the
NTPrint.inf file and then say "unable to install hp officejet g series, x64,
Windows XP driver. Operation could not be completed"

Strangely, when I had the HP G85 connected onto a MS Small Business Server
the x64 PC could connect to it with no problems. (Had to move the G85 of the
server as users want to access the scanning features) Any advice?

  7. Andre, I am fighting with the Canon for drivers and looks like I am going
nowhere as you mentioned. Thanks for the clarification.

  9. Thanks Charlie,
This one was informative. Half of my printers did accept the driver. FOR one
of the B&W HP, I created a new printer on server and forced 5si driver. It
took it. I am fighting with Canon Color printer though.

  11. x64 drivers are not yet supported on XP. You will need to wait for SP3.
