Just upgraded to Windows 7 with new build and after plugging in a
portable hard drive into one of the USB ports, Windows wanted to format
    the unit.

I have been able to read the files on two occasions but for the rest of
the time the OS reckons that there is no filing system and recommends a
    format. Which is nonsense.

Any solution? I have tried Googling without success

Thanks. And thanks to VanguardLH. I see that it is a issue with other
USB devices attached to 64 bit installations.
