I'll try this again. The alt.playstation group seems dead. A guy I work
with has a Playstation 2 for his kid and he in turn has tried to connect
it to a remote player using a dialup modem. Too slow, but apparently it
worked. Dad pops for a cable modem. He wants to know if the Playstation2
can be run directly into the cable modem, bypassing the computer. Wants
to get the kid out of his bedroom, and doesn't want to put another
computer in the kid's bedroom. I can't help much because I have never
seen a Playstation, but maybe someone here has? I'm thinking that
finding a specific ip address out there is too complex without a
computer to interface, but then what do I know?

alt.games.video.sony-playstation2 looks very busy to me.

Get a router and connect both the game and the computer to the cable
modem. It works here and the kid can be almost 300 feet away from Pop.
