I inherited a pix 501 firewall and the previous admin somehow locked
out the console port.... i've tried everything from different computer
to different terminal emulation software to access the console port.
Nothing seems to be working... is there anything i can do other than
try to brute the telnet password?

If you reboot it, console attached, do you see activity on the screen? If
so, use the password recovery on cisco's web site. Otherwise, you may have
a bad console port, cable, serial port or terminal emulation issue.
