PAL and NTSC DVD Issues - Buffy

I bought seasons 6 and 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on eBay.
I knew the price was too good to be true (approx. $25 each),
because they appear to be Chinese made bootlegs. What I ended
up getting was Season 6 in NTSC format, which plays fine on
my Panasonic DVD player, and in my computer DVD player. Season
6 is also presented in full screen format. However, the Season 7 set
is widescreen (16:9) in PAL format. This plays OK on my computer
with PowerDVD, but will not play on the Panasonic DVD player
connected to my TV. Both season sets are "region free". Is there
anything I can do to watch these on my Panasonic DVD player, or
do I need to think about getting a modified region free "all code" DVD
player? (I've actually been thinking about getting one anyway, since
so many DVD box sets are available in region 2 before they are out
    in region 1).

Report the seller to eBay, and the real distributor, return the bootlegs
after you are credited, unless you knew they were bootlegs in the first
place. Dont be such a cheap bastard next time. If you think a deal is too
good to be true, it probably is.

You can buy a region free palyer for $40 at Sam's Club or RadioShack or Target.
Go to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks to see hacks. You can also find
region free players at any of the Amazon stores.

The Cyberhome 300 plays any disc after the remote control code is entered. It
will convert PAL to NTSC and vice versa. However, if you have a 4:3 set it
only does the PAL to NTSC conversion so you'll see a slightly squushed picture
    on 16:9 discs.

You want to throw good money after bad, in order to play some bootleg discs?
Report the seller to Ebay, get your money back, and go buy the real set. At
    a store.

You need more than a region-free machine to play pal discs on a ntsc tv. You
need a player which can digitally convert a pal picture to ntsc.

    Cheers, Pete.

I think they're all limies who own multiple scan rate sets and assume north
american sets work the same way? They forget this is alt.media.dvd not
    uk.media.dvd.
