Outlook Express issues - unable to open message(s) due to low memory, etc.

Discussion in 'Computer Support' started by up for the game, Oct 28, 2006.

  1. Hi
I seem to get the above on a random basis...RAM is at 2 GB and disk
    space is not an issue.

I have loaded up the Paging file size and tend to keep the Temp file
    folder somewhat clean.

Has anyone else seen this on a regular basis and able to do something
    to avoid it?

I have a very large collection of OE messages saved in many folders.

    Thanks
    Joe

    1. Delete what you don't want/need. (Don't be such a pack rat!)

    2. Archive saved messages in *non-default* folders: see:

    http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/compact-messages-ftopict474821.html

"To keep things running smooth, and for faster compacting:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt and you may lose mail. Create your own user defined folders for
storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder
regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as
    empty as is feasible."

    3. Compact your folders (this is VERY important!); see:

    http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

    HTH.

"Unable to open message(s) due to low memory, etc"?

What is the EXACT wording of the message?

    What verision of OE?

    Hi
    Here are the specifics:
OE 6 w/sp2 and the store folder is 6.9 gb.
    Error message is:
Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying
this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and
    try again

This usually appears when I do a 'find' for a message and then try to
    open one of the 'finds'.

    Thanks for taking the time
    Joe
