OT - Major changes for Google

Discussion in 'Digital Photography' started by Jonovan Powell, Aug 4, 2004.

  1. I am posting this message from Google's new GOOGLE GROUPS 2 web
interface. This new system is about to replace the older and current
version of GOOGLE GROUPS. They have made at least two major changes:

1- NNTP Posting Host will no longer reveal the originating IP address
of the poster. Try to to find an IP in my header.

2- When you reply to a post through GOOGLE GROUPS 2, the full text of
the post you are replying to will be quoted in full. Posters will not
have the ability to trim or snip quoted text. Worst of all, the reply
will automatically be top posted, on top of the mandatory fully quoted
    text.

Glad to hear it, as these changes will make the demise of
Google Groups happen that much faster. Its main function
these days is to serve as a primary posting method for
    Usenet abusers.

No 2 is really sad, because it circumvents logical debating

It also separates the punch line from the finest humor

Seems deleting posting host isn't going to help with cleaning up the
    problem.

Could this be proof of what they intend to be? a mail2news replacement?

Which will make you a pariah in some groups.

I just checked it out. Some interesting new features, but some seriously
missing ones. anyway, it doesn't look ready at all. They'll probably fix it
    before they roll it out.
