I'm running NAV now and it expires next month. I hadn;t noticed in the
past and it usually expires on me, so ... should I wait 30 days to
install or does it matter ? Does the new license date go by the install
date or my "current expiration + 12 months".

Don't renew. Uninstall NAV and any traces of it, then install AVG.

    Just uninstall and re-install.
