No Hard Drive Detected!!!

Discussion in 'Windows 64bit' started by =?Utf-8?B?VGlt?=, Sep 21, 2006.

  1. Hi all,

To cut a long story short, basically I did a fresh reinstall of Windows XP.
Once completed, I looked in My Computer to see what was there. It only
showed me one hard drive (F:\). However I have two. Before the install I
had F:\ and G:\ (My 2 hard drives). Now it could only detect one. I went to
disk management and saw both drives listed there in a healthy state. However
there was no assigned letter for my second hard drive. I right clicked it
but the assign new drive letter command was greyed out. The only thing I
could do was change it to dynamic disk. Not sure of this I proceeded to do
so. This was done and now I can see both disks. However it performed a
standard chkdsk and I noticed it started deleting some files. Now I can see
both disks but it deleted some files I wanted without my permission. Why is
this? Why couldn't it detect both disks where as before it could? Does it
matter that my disk is dynamic? Can I retrieve these files? Any advice on
this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks, Tim
