New Releases: Ron Howard Splash, Ransom & The Missing, new from Criterion: Updated complete download

    Buena Vista has a couple of special editions from director Ron Howard.
    Ransom (Special Edition) will be released on March 23rd. Initial technical
    specifications indicate Dolby 5.1 and anamorphic video with the extras
    announced so far as Extensive Deleted Scenes, What Would You Do?, Featurette
    With Cast & Crew, Commentary With Director Ron Howard, Captivating
    Behind-the-Scenes Special With Cast and Filmmakers. Suggested retail price
    is $29.99.

    Also from Buena Vista is the 20th anniversary edition of Ron Howard's
    Splash. Like the other title the initial specs are 5.1 and anamorphic with
    the extras given as Rare, Original, Exclusive Tom Hanks Audition,
    Extraordinary Original Daryl Hannah Audition, Making A Splash-Cast & Crew
    Reminisce On Making The Film, Entertaining Commentary With Director Ron
    Howard, Producer Brian Grazer and Writers Lowell Ganz & Babloo Mandel. List
    price is $29.99 with a release date of March 23rd.

    Buena Vista has something for the younger set with the March 16th release of
    Kim Possible: A Stitch In Time and Lizzie McGuire: Volume 3 - Star Struck.
    Both are listed as $19.99.

    Rounding off this set of releases from Buena Vista are Tales From Avonlea:
    Volumes 1 - 4 on March 2nd for $29.99, Hope Springs ($29.99) and Discover
    Spot ($19.99) on April 6th.

    New Line Cinema has Freddy Vs. Jason due out on January 13th for $29.95. Not
    much in the way of details where provided in the initial announcement.

    Showtime has both censored and uncensored versions of Pen & Teller:
    Bullsh*t! due out on March 30th for $39.99 and contains the entire first
    season.

    Ventura has some Spanish language films set for April 6th. No mention of
    English subtitles was listed in the announcement. Included are Asi Amaron
    Nuestros Padres and Confidencias (Secrets). Cinco Minutos De Amor (Five
    Secret Minutes Of Love) will be released on April 20th, Amapola Del Camino
    (Flower From The Road) and Bodas Tragicas (Tragic Wedding) on March 23rd.
    Most list for $14.95.

    Criterion has two releases for March 9th. Onibaba in Dolby mono and
    anamorphic 2.35:1 anamorphic. Extras listed as New video interview with
    writer/director Kaneto Shindo; Rare super-8 black & white and color footage
    provided by actor Kei Sato, shot on location during the filming of Onibaba;
    Original trailer; Stills gallery featuring production sketches and
    promotional art; Rare English translation of the original short Buddhist
    fable that inspired the film; Filmmaker's statement from writer/director
    Kaneto Shindo. Retail listed as $29.95.

    Also from Criterion on March 9th is Scenes From A Marriage. Not only do you
    get the theatrical release both also the full Swedish television
    presentation for $49.95. Extras are listed as Comparison between the
    television and theatrical versions by film scholar Peter Cowie; Exclusive
    new video interview with stars Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson; Video
    interview with Ingmar Bergman; New essay by author Phillip Lopate.

    Columbia/TriStar has Ron Howard's The Missing set for release on February
    24th. The initial announcement has Dolby 5.1 audio for both the P&S and
    anamorphic widescreen releases. Each has a cost of $28.95. Extras are give
    as to include Three Alternate Endings, The Short Films of Ron Howard, 11
    Deleted Scenes, 11 Behind the Scenes Featurettes and Director's Commentary.

    Also from Columbia for release on March 9th are Red Water, Anne Frank
    Remembered and Slugger's Wife.

    From Universal Music a few titles for those belly dancing wannabes out
    there. January 27th has Jillina: Instructional Bellydance: Level 1, Jillina:
    Instructional Bellydance: Level 2 and Jillina: Instructional Bellydance:
    Level 3 for $14.95 each. They also have Sting: Sacred Love and Marvin Gaye:
    Let's Get It On for $24.95 on the same date.
