Firefox is a web browser, Outlook is an e-mail reader etc. Are you
looking for a way to find new newsgroups with Thunderbird?

Right click on the newsgroup account, and select Subscribe. When the
dialog comes up, click the Refresh button to see any groups that have
    been added to that server.
