network printer keeps re-installing with each USB connect/disconne

  1. XP Home. Netgear router
HP2410 all in one cabled to desktop W98se and via router for laptop Compaq
    R4000
Old HP1000c cabled to either desktop or laptop via USB to parallel cable

Problem: On laptop. Whenever I connect or disconnect ANY USB device, XP
wants to reinstall the wirelessly networked HP2410 and it's fax counterpart.
    Very annoying!
Is there any way to prevent this?
