MTBF hard drive manufacturers use different rules

How do you compare different MTBF benchmarks for hard drives? My
Maxtor drive specs claim 1 bit error in 10e 15 reads. Other hard
drive manufacturers state MTBF in terms of hours of use. How do these
    different standards compare?

bit error rates are nothing to do with MTBF

They use a "PROJECTED FIELD MTBF "
