MS Updates interfere with FiOS

Have had FiOS for about 6 months now, with no issues (using IE 7).
However, today I was unable to connect to the internet even though
Vista saw nothing wrong with the Network. All pings were OK from
several websites. Shut down the FiOS router, with no change.

Then, I remembered that upon final shut-down last night, MS Updates
had auto-installed 9 updates, all of which were security related, and
one was specific to Internet Explorer 7 (they were all dated
12/11/07). So, I did a system restore back a couple of days (12/9),
and that solved the problem. Then I finally bothered to turn off MS
    auto-updates.

I am no tech junkie, but just as an FYI for FiOS customers, these
latest MS updates may indeed be interfering with your network. What a
    shock.
