If I don't install Winxp security patches, will NAV make up for them?

What someone thinks is a security threat.
I need to know what someone knows.

    No.

NAV just deals with viruses/trojans. The security patches deal with:

1)all sorts of possible exploits that people could use to compromise your
    system

2)bugs in the base operating system.

It is usually a good idea to get your computer updated regularly...

No. The patches fix vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, Outlook Express,
etc., and the operating system itself. Furthermore, it seems that when a
security patch is released, it prompts hackers to figure out how to exploit
the vulnerability so that they can attack those who do not apply the patch:

Temporarily shut down your antivirus and visit Windows Update. Downloading
and installing the "critical update" patches one at a time seems to make the
process go more smoothly, according to some reports.

    Regards,
    Ian.

No there are many ways to mess up your computer other than a virus. That is
why you need to update windows, run and update an antivirus, run a firewall
    and never open attachements.

If the reason why you do not update windows is you are on dialup and it
would take you for ever MS will send you a cd for free. It will update you
to fall of last year so you will have to down load what ever updates we have
had in the last few months.
