I have tried creating message rules to stop these from being downloaded from
the server, but it deosn't seem to be working.

I have set a rule for the from conatins Microsoft and the subject contains
update patch etc., but they are being ignored. Any help?

I have deleted +4000 since Thursday and they still keep coming at a rate af
    obout five every 5 minutes.
I don't think you can stop them being delivered to your mailbox. Suggest you
install Mailwasher and delete what you dont want in your mailbox before
    downloading.
As a prevention (I will probably be corrected here) is to put a fake email
address in your news account for when you are posting to newsgroups. It
looks as though this is how these things spread. But once it has your legit
email address it has a snowball effect.
My kids don't post to newsgroups and they have not received any.

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the To or CC line contains 'User' or 'Client' or 'Microsoft' or 'S
Corporation' or 'mail' or 'network' or 'internet' or 'Receiver' or 'Inet'
    or
    'Recipient' or 'Email'
    Delete it from server

You can't have it all -
Where would you put it ?

Set your message rules to accept only what is in your address book and the rest[junk] to go to a separate folder

  7. Why don't you try installed Mailwasher - it's free - and ideal for keeping
spam under control since you can set up a friends list and a spam list and
then delete message direct from your mail server, before they are downloaded
    to our mail program's inbox.

The link is as follows: http://www.mailwasher.net/

    I hope this helps.
