Motorola Surfboard Firmware Issues

So, I'm understanding that my Surfboard SB4100 is one of the ones with the
bum firmware version that will not update from the DHCP servers... and is
causing my upload to be capped low.

I went to Motorola.com, but cannot find a support page (though I may have
looked right past it for trying, if ya know how that goes:) It is my
understanding that you have to return the modem to have it fixed, but I have
    a few issues with that:

1.) I can't find where to send it if I wanted to, but I'm not sure I do
    because

2.) how the heck am I going to stay connected until the thing comes back?
    (I'm sorry... just can't take dial-up anymore)

Is there a way around this i.e. some sort of flash one can ask for
(supposing one can find where the heck to ask for it) or a BIOS type chip to
    plug in or whatever?

    Anyone else dealing with this?
