I have a little Nikon Coolpix S1 which is comfortably and conveniently
compact. I can live with most of it's drawback, but it's lack of a
viewfinder makes it almost useless in outside bright sunlight. Someone
mentioned that there is an aftermarket, collapsible shade that can be stuck
on the monitor. Any ideas as to who makes such an item, what it would be
    called and where sold?

    TIA

Radio Shack has them, but I don't know how effective they are.

Try these folks. I've bought their products and the quality is good:
