Modem

  1. Hey all,
I recently upgraded to windows xp because I was having problems with some
    programs running on windows 98.
I added a second hard-drive before the install to back up some data and then
    wiped my main hard-drive.
In order to install/remove the second hard-drive I had to remove the modem
and the cable running from the mainboard to the sound out (onboard sound)
After installing XP everything works fine except no sound and, more
importantly, everytime I try to connect to the internet I get an error: No
    dial tone.
I installed the latest generic drivers from conexant (modem is a SoftV92
Data Fax Voice modem) but still no luck.
Xp shows it in the device manager to be working properly. Querying the modem
gives me all ok except for AT#CLS=? which gives me command not supported.
Also the log says that when initialising the modem the DRS is low... What
    does this mean?
Could I have somehow broken the modem? Is there any easy way to check?
I have installed/uninstalled modems hard-drives mainboards etc before
    without too many problems.
Oh I installed the hyperion 4 in 1 drivers for the sound but no luck.
    Thanks,
    Jay

Disregard your other information, you said "No dial tone". Could it be the
problem is simply really "No dial tone" with your phone line? Try to plug
the line to a telephone set and pick it up whether you hear any dial tone.
