Recently installed a new modem and upgraded to Windows XP.

Originally, the system was shutting down whenever I connected to the
internet, I found out that this was due to the blaster worm. Since
installing the patch and running a firewall I have found that I cannot hold
a connection for longer than ten minutes. Anyone know why? I can't figure
out if it is a problem with btinternet that has coincided with these
upgardes. Typically BT's support has been useless, according to their
status newsgroup, BT simply don't get problems. Anyone else having probs
with btinternet or know how to solve my problem. Connection speeds have also
    been sub 50k.

    Thanks in advance.

Check yer settings for the connection, some automatically set up to switch
off so you don't spend hours online. look in control panel on network
connections.....your connection and then right lick and properties and also
check the modem settings for any screamers............
